Biggest is not always the best or the most effective in collecting rainwater. The more you can store the better, however there is a common misconception. The UK has short intense bursts of rainfall in the summer when rainwater is needed the most. This means that the in conventional water butts the diverter throttles the flow before the water butt is full meaning precious rainwater is lost down the down pipe when it is needed the most. The Prestige water butt is different, it collects all the flow flowing down the downpipe until full and then overflows.
Consider the micro irrigation kit if you wish to water plants (at floor level) directly from the water butt with a simple turn of the tap. Consider the Irrigatia solar water pump to water hanging baskets.
All fixing and instructions are included - basic DIY is required.
Can the Prestige Water Butt be mounted asymmetricaly around the downpipe.
Yes is the short answer. Simply remove one of the two planter caps in the top of the water butt and direct the downpipe into the tank. This provides ~14cm offset perfect if your downpipe is coming down the edge of a wall. A typical gully drain is 30-40cm wide so no modification to the outlet pipe should be required. If it is an issue simply purchase a downpipe offset kit here.
I've been asked to provide attenuated storage for my new house extension can the Prestige Water Butt be used for this?
Yes. Please give us a call to discuss your requirements in more detail.
Can I link more than one water butt together?
Yes. The linking kits are free for more than one purchase.
Can the Prestige water butt be used to use to fill remote water butts?
Yes the Prestige water butt can act as a rainwater hub. Simply attach a length of hose between the Prestige water butt and the remote water butt. Please note that the Prestige water butt will fill other remote water butts to the level of its overflow. An overflow maybe required on the receiving water butt. This is an effective method of achieving 100% yield since there are no diverter losses which may lose up to 80% of the flow volume during heavy storms.
The Prestige wall mounted water butt combines both a diverter and a reservoir in one unique product. Excess water overflows automatically and safely into the downpipe and on into your drain. When full and containing 100 ltrs (22 galls), natural expansion of the reservoir will occur. Both the reservoir and fixings have been designed to accommodate this. The higher the water butt is placed on the wall, the greater the 'head' of water pressure, thus enabling direct hosing of your plants. More than one butt can be connected together for increased storage capacity. A jointing kit is available.
- 1 Wallmounted Water butt
- 2 L brackets
- 6 Screws and Plugs
- 1 Centre Button
- 1 Tap
- 1 Tap Bung
- 2 Top caps (black) factory fitted
Follow these instructions carefully; all brackets and fixings must be used correctly. Use the correct sized drill bit and appropriate screwdriver head with the fixings provided.
Step 1: Decide Height
Decide the height and position at which you wish to fix the water butt, remembering to allow enough room for your watering can under the tap. The suggested height is 380mm (15"). At this point mark a level line on the wall.
Step 2: Bottom Pipe Clips
Any bottom pipe clip must be 125mm (5") below the water butt. Reposition if necessary.
Step 3: Outlet Section Cuts
Measure 1075mm (42 1/2") up from height line (A) and cut horizontally through the pipe. Now mark 140mm (51/2") above this cut and once again cut and remove this section (sections C).
Step 4: Top Pipe Clips
Ensure that any top clip is positioned at a minimum of 240mm (9 1/2") above the top of the reservoir for ease of fitting.
Step 5: Fixing Wall Bracket
Taking the metal wall brackets, sit level with line (A). The brackets must be separated horizontally by 220mm (9") to centres, symmetrical around the downpipe. The brackets will sit on the grooves on the underside of the water butt. Mark the holes, drill and fix the brackets to the wall with the screws-plugs provided.
Step 6: Fitting the Water Butt
Offer up the water butt to the top down pipe sliding it inside the centre hole of the butt until it will go no further. With the butt against the lower wall, lower it onto the bottom pipe section. Now with the butt seated level and evenly on the brackets, mark the position dead centre of the two top holes and REMOVE THE WATER BUTT* to allow for drilling. Drill two holes. Insert the plugs. Offer up the water butt. Screw in the screws. Do not overtighten.
*failure to do this may result in damage to the top area of the reservoir when using the drill.
Finally fit the tap on the side you wish and the bung on the opposite side.
